Winchester Medical Center Shadowbox Art Celebrates their Nursing History

Many hospitals, to the delight of visitors,  display artifacts and historical documents that celebrate the history of the organization and or professions.

Through Journey Walls, Legacy Walls and other displays, hospitals can artfully tell their story and the story of their caregivers.

At Winchester Medical Center, three shadow boxes chronicle the life of a nurse, Mary Jane Huff, who trained at the Winchester School of Nursing and worked at Winchester Medical Center in the 1940s and 1950s. Mary Jane’s daughter, Beverley Shoemaker recently donated personal items including photos, poems, identification cards diplomas and invitations, belonging to her mother, along with historical nursing artifacts to the hospital.

Kathy Tagnesi, Vice President, Nursing, Winchester Medical Center, takes a trip back in time as she becomes immersed in the life of Winchester Hospital nurses as captured through the eyes of 1946 nursing graduate, Mary Jane Huff.
