Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) created a stand-alone orthopedic, urgent care and sports medicine clinic that needed a unique identity through art branding. The three-floored clinic serves patients in pulmonology, orthopedic surgery, physical therapy, sports medicine and “Healthy You” wellness education. Proposed artwork needed to: represent specific medical departments, inspire patients of diverse backgrounds, and represent sports wellness while connecting architectural, interior and way finding themes.
Distinctive Art Source (DAS) imagined a creative solution that would not only reflect the patient population and staff specialties, but also brand the building with a unique identity from the inside out. Vibrant photography and multisport collages were used to brand CHKD departments while connecting patients with moments of action, performance and play. For example, pulmonology art includes children blowing bubbles and inflating pool toys as a way to support the clinical lung exercises taking place in the exam rooms. Art for the “Healthy You” clinic, an educational program designed to help children gain control of their weight and health, depicts active relatable children swimming, eating well and playing outdoors. Additionally, the art amongst three floors includes a plethora of sports and activities including, hockey, swimming, hiking, dancing, surfing, skating, soccer and baseball.
