Inova Children’s Hospital wished for a thematic visual solution on each of three dedicated floors in the new Inova Children’s Hospital. As a children’s hospital, art and interiors must combine to create a vibrant and cheerful atmosphere. Dominant accent colors were selected by the interior design team to identify each floor. Distinctive Art Source needed to help create an art program that would both support and continue individual floor accent colors. Inova also requested that the art program included community elements that would allow new nurse teams on each floor to create something together for their patients prior to opening.
DAS proposed a multimedium art experience that would brand each floor of the Children’s Hospital with an identifiable theme that incorporated previously defined accent colors. Amongst the three children’s floors, DAS created themes of sea (teal/coral) sky (red/blue) and land (green/purple). Reception areas showcase unified color/art schemes while welcoming patients and families with memorable wall coverings, textures and mosaics. Additional corridor art visually continues each floor concept while carrying corresponding accent colors throughout the floor and complementing existing interior texture.
