Timeline: November 2005 – July 2006
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center serves their region with an ultra-modern medical center and the latest healthcare technologies. SWRMC hired Distinctive Art Source to commission an artist to design fabricate and install a water feature for the Rotunda that would complement the architecture while visualizing their Planetree philosophies. The water feature needed to be viewable from 360 degrees, be self contained above the finished floor, enhance the verticality of the space, require minimal maintenance and provide an overall meditative and tranquil quality to the lobby experience.
The finished feature utilizes varying heights, shapes and finishes to transform the sound of water as the visitor travels around the sculpture. The sculpture reflects the Planetree philosophies of the hospital and delights listeners with the joy of discovery as they move through the lobby.
